We all have talents that God has blessed us with. Then we have talents that we acquire through time, but we may never really be a master of them. No matter what, God expects us to use our talents in a way that glorifies Him. He also expects us to be content with what we have and that includes our talents. No one can know or do everything.
Romans 12:3-8 New International Version (NIV)
Humble Service in the Body of Christ
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
I bring this up because I suck at writing. I can analyze things and know what is going on. I can see patterns easily. I can learn just about anything through books. I can problem solve/trouble shoot. I can picture how things should be. I can come up with creative ways to use just about anything. I have a decent vocabulary, but it is not the best and I am a terrible writer.
Is there a way for me to improve my writing skills? I am sure there is, but I am not sure if I really want to take the time to improve it. I use to hear people say that if you read lots of books that your vocabulary and writing skills will automatically increase, but I am not sure that is true.
The real question is does God want me to take the time to improve my writing skills so He can use me in a way that I have never been used before to reach someone? The answer more than likely is yes which means that even if I do not want to become a better writer, I should because it is God’s will. We all should be doing God’s will and not our own. However, that is hard to do when our flesh and Satan are be selfish and do what we want and not what God wants.
