Thanksgiving

On Thursday 25Nov2021, America celebrated Thanksgiving. Some out there want the holiday removed because of what happened with the American Indians. Here is what I have to say to all of those people, get over it already.

What happened to the American Indians or American Natives or whatever they want to be called by people who came here from other countries was atrocious. However, is it any worse than what they did to their own? I am not saying that two wrongs make a right but it seems like in this country, all we want to focus on is the negative and the past.

Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate why we are thankful. Settlers from another country needed help in those early days/years and they got it from Native Americans. Then they needed help again in fighting some of the early wars and they got it. Then the natives were betrayed by a foreign government because of ignorance and fear but when the government needed their help in fighting more modern wars, the got it. I am thankful that despite the way the Native Americans were treated, they still chose to give.

Those that want to remove the holiday or make it a day of being somber or whatever they want to turn the holiday into need to ask themselves what are they thankful for? They should be thankful that they have the freedom to print whatever they wish to print to put forth any idea they want because of a document called the Constitution of the United States.

There are many things I am thankful for:

  1. Family
  2. Friends
  3. Church Family
  4. A God who answers prayers
  5. A God who sent His son to die for my sins
  6. A God through Jesus Christ who heals our mind, body, and spirit

I have not been feeling well for nearly a year now. About last November/December, I got a cough and headaches. The did not get much better over time. The headaches started to go away around June or July, then I got sick with a low grade fever and just a feeling of not feeling well. I was put on two different antibiotics because potential pneumonia or Lyme Disease. My lung X-ray for my left side did not look good. I had fluid drawn from the pleural cavity and the results were all over the place but it was not malignant but the Dr still thinks it is cancer. I have been feeling a little better everyday for the past month and even have energy which I have been lacking for about 6 to 8 months.

So am I thankful, you had better believe it. I am thankful that God heard all of the prayers from people in our church, people from other churches, my family, and myself.

I know it may be a difficult time but ask yourself what do you have to be thankful for? If you say nothing, then you really did not look very hard because there is always something to be thankful for, even if you are going through a rough time right now. I know that last part may sound weird but sometimes we need to be thankful for the rough times as well as the good. In other words, be thankful for all situations.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 New International Version

18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

So I ask again, what are you thankful for?
