So many of us want things now that we are willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. Often that means we take shortcuts. So let me define what a shortcut is:
a method or means of doing something more directly and quickly than and often not so thoroughly as by ordinary procedure
More often than not, shortcuts have consequences and they can be dangerous. Take a path through the wilderness. A shortcut may be climbing the face of the mountain. Doing so will get you from point A to point much faster, but it is dangerous and the consequences for doing something foolish could mean death.
The same principle holds true even with God. There are several Bible verses about taking shortcuts:
Proverbs 21:5 New International Version (NIV)
5 The plans of the diligent lead to profit
as surely as haste leads to poverty.
Proverbs 19:2 New International Version (NIV)
2 Desire without knowledge is not good—
how much more will hasty feet miss the way!
Psalm 37:7 New International Version (NIV)
7 Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Matthew 7:13 New International Version (NIV)
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
We think there is an easier way to get to Heaven, but there is not. There is only one way and that is through Jesus Christ. Furthermore, we always want God to do things on our time because we are in such a hurry. The problem is God works according to His plan. When we do not see the point behind why it is taking so long, then we start to take things in our hands and ultimately we take shortcuts. This leads to problems as more times than not it means were are succumbing to the worldly desires and the desires of our flesh. This leads to sin and as we all should know by now, sin leads to death.
Ultimately the choice is yours. You can try to get to Heaven by taking shortcuts, but I think you will be disappointed in the end. My suggestion is to be patient and wait for God.
