We are supposed to love our neighbor as our self and we are to love our enemies. However, this is easier said than done especially when someone hurts those you love.
I have been watching “Punisher” and if you think about it, this show goes completely against what God has said. This man’s family was killed and he sought revenge on those that killed them.
Now I understand that if the Punisher loved his enemies, there would not be much of a show. However, we need to realize it is just a show and that we are expected to act opposite to the storyline in real life.
I have know idea how I would act if a person intentionally or unintentionally hurt someone that I loved. I do pray that God would help calm me down so that I could make rationale decisions and not react out of anger. Because we are also instructed not to sin in our anger.
It is not that anger is bad, but that if it gets out of control, it can lead down a destructive path. God knew this and is telling us in an easy to understand verse.
I know I struggle with seeking revenge when a loved one has been hurt, do you? It is not that I have acted on any of those feelings, but I have not been pushed to the breaking point either.
Do you have vengeance issues? If so, then seek help from the Lord. Pray to Him and ask Him to show you the path that will make you repent from these feelings. Ask Him for forgiveness and ask Him to show how. Ask Him for inner peace and how to unharden your heart.
