Lets define bitterness:
- anger and disappointment at being treated unfairly;
- resentment.
- a deep-seated ill will
I would say that describes a large majority of the population. This is what the media and politicians thrive on. These groups use anger, disappointment, being treated unfairly, and resentment to rile up the masses. Don’t believe me, just turn on the news or search the internet and you will see how bitter people really are.
I am just as susceptible as any other person I get riled up when certain situations occur or topics are discussed. These include gun confiscation, eroding our Constitutional rights, bad drivers, supporting those who do not want to work (entitlement), discrimination of any kind,
Lets look at Christ:
- Was He treated fairly? No.
- Was He resentful? No
- Was He angry? No
- Was He bitter? No
We have Christ who was crucified for my sin, but He was forgiving instead of bitter.
With the current times the way they are, people are more and more bitter and I feel like it is a time bomb that is getting ready to explode. We all need to take a deep breath and learn to relax. The question is do you like being bitter? Do you like harboring bitterness in your life? Do you want peace in your life? I pray that you want peace.
If you want peace, then forgive others. This means giving up anything you think the person owes you. Once you forgive, they owe you nothing, their debt is paid.
I know it is not that simple to forgive because if it were, you probably would have already done it. If you are struggling with forgiving others, then I am going to urge you to take to God and get His help. If you just want to hold onto the anger and still want them to owe you, then I am going to encourage you to please read my previous posts on forgiveness and then go read the Bible (This is really important). There is a penalty for not forgiving.
