Slothfulness

What is slothfulness? It is a person who is lazy or who does not want to work.

So many people in our society are lazy and do not want to work. Part of it is their fault and part of it is their parents/guardians fault. The real question is why?

Some think they are entitled simply because they are alive because that is what they have been taught. Others are scared to put forth energy because then there will be an expectation and if that expectation cannot be met they will feel like a failures. Yet others have no idea what they are supposed to do, so they do nothing.

We are warned about being slothful.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 English Standard Version (ESV)

10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

1 Timothy 5:8 English Standard Version (ESV)

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Proverbs 10:4 English Standard Version (ESV)

A slack hand causes poverty,
but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

Do not get me wrong, we can all be lazy from time to time and I think that is a good thing. Sometimes, we just need a break from things to recoup. This is not the kind of slothfulness that is being talked about here. The slothfulness that is being discussed here are those that never work or who never want to work. These people decide to live in poverty and expect others to take care of them, but at the same time, they do not want to take care of anyone else.

The question is do you want to be lazy and expect others to take care of you or do you want to help those who are struggling, but are still contributing to society and doing God’s will? I pray you make the right decision.
