Can you only read the Bible?

Whether you read or listen to the Bible is irrelevant.  Can you only have the word?  The answer is NO.

A person that only knows the word does not truly understand.  There are two parts to anything understanding is one and action is the other.

If you are thinking what?  Then let me explain in a little more detail.   You may understand how to add or subtract, but have done the actual addition or subtraction.  That is a simple example, so lets take a look at something that is a little harder.

Take building an engine.  You may understand how to build an engine, but the real proof is does it work after you have actually built the engine.  So you see there are always two parts. There is the understanding of what is being asked and then there is the action associated with that understanding.

So you may know the word, but unless you are actually acting on what the word is saying, you really are not doing anything.

James 1:23-24 New International Version (NIV)

23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

By acting on the word, you will do a few things, such as show God and Christ how much you actually love them and you will show others that God and Christ love them.  Furthermore, when people see a change in you, they will want to know what caused that change as long as it is a better change.  No where in the Bible does God instruct us to do evil.

I pray that you not only understand the word, but that you also act on the word.   I further pray that when you are acting on the word, that others see the change and will question you as to what caused it.  Be a beacon of light for Jesus.

May God bless you.
