Food Industry and the FDA

My body is a temple and I have the right to know what I am putting into my body.  However, if you go by what the FDA is doing, no you do not.  They decide what has to be on the labels and in most cases it does not favor the purchaser.

Michelle Obama was and I guess still is on a war path to make food better in schools.  She acts like she has all this authority to change what food is served, but in reality she has absolutely zero power.  Instead of trying to force the schools to change, it would have been far more beneficial for her and the President to force changes in the way FDA handles food. Then try to teach the public about the dangers of what some of the foods the industry is putting out there.

Take for example MSG, the way it is on the label can be very misleading and the FDA considers this additive as GRAS(Generally Recognized As Safe). Depending on the purity of the MSG, they may not be required to list this ingredient and if it is listed it may be listed as other Natural Ingredients.

Now look at GMO, Genetically Modified Organisms.  There have been more and more organisms that are GMO, but according to the FDA, these do not have to be identified.  Why?  Monsanto created a lot of these GMOs and at least seven High Ranking FDA employees have some kind of employment history with Monsanto.  There is nothing conflicting there, not at all.

The FDA is supposed to be looking out for us the public who purchase these goods based on what the FDA has allowed to be labeled as food.  However, the reality is that organization is probably more corrupt that any other in the Federal Government.  Now of course this is my opinion so do your own research, but based on what I have found online in more than one article, I have a suspicion that it is true.

Take the new “Frakenfish”.  It is another GMO product that does not have to be labeled as such.  Thankfully, a lot of stores have refused to allow this into their stores, but for how long.  I just wish the FDA would get off their butts and actually do their job and make these companies identify when something has been genetically modified and make these companies identify everything that is in them.

I recently had a discussion with a scientist that thinks GMO is ok, but asked him to prove this.   What do you suppose the answer was, he could not.  So he in turn basically asked me to prove that is was not safe since this modification allows for greater yields.  My response was that some of the modifications allow the plant to survive against Round Up and other herbicides.  If they are spraying the crops with herbicides, then it is very likely that some of that has entered into the vegetable or fruit and have now entered us through consumption.  These chemicals are know toxins and carcinogens. I further stated that I have the right to know what it is going into my body.  If I know that it is GMO and decide to purchase that product, then that is my choice.  But not knowing that decision process has essentially been taken away from me.

Now take Soy Lecithin.  It is in almost every product. Why?  It is an emulsifier that is used to keep food from potentially separating.  However, according to many researches, unfermented soy products are potentially very dangerous for human consumption.  Does the FDA really care? In my opinion no.   They could go back and re-investigate, but soy is a GMO product and patented by Monsanto and again we have this potential conflict of interest.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 New International Version (NIV)

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies

I pray that you will act and make the FDA put more information on these labels so you the consumer can make the decision.  I pray that you recognize that your body is a temple to server the Lord and will make better decisions about the types and amount of food you consume.  In Jesus name I pray for these things, Amen.
