Sick and Traveling

Wow it has been a week.  Where has the time gone?

Last Tuesday I got sick and as the week went on it got worse and worse.  On top of that my wife and I traveled with our daughter to her new summer job which is a considerable distance away.

It was sad to leave her, but a happy moment because she is growing up into an incredible young woman.  She is a smart young lady with a lot of potential, but I am afraid she does not see her worth as she tries to take on way too much in order not to let anyone down.  She seems to be able to handle all the responsibilities she has taken on, but how long can she go before it all crashes around her.

After we dropped her off at her new place, my wife and I were planning a road trip to my job, but my illness diverted us and we headed home.  On the way home we decided to book airplane tickets and God must have been watching over us because the ticket prices were cheaper 2 days before travel than they were 2 weeks ago.  I could not believe it, but I was very thankful.

Being sick is not fun and what I have, as I am still getting over it, is awful.  However, I sometimes think that the Lord allows this just to slow us up.  When you are sick, you really have to slow down and take it easy.  I know the verse below sparks some comments from time to time as to what it really means.

Isaiah 53:5 New International Version (NIV)

But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
    and by his wounds we are healed.

Some think it means physical and spiritual and others think it means just spiritual.  To me it does not really matter how you interpret the verse, but the fact you are relying upon help from Christ to heal you.

I pray that when something happens to you, that you do not get mad at God or the situation, but embrace what has happened.  Instead ask yourself why has this happened without anger and be prepared for the answer.  It may shock you.  There have been many times where something has happened to slow me up or impede my progress and it has made me a bit upset, but I ask why.  Sometime later I would get the answer and think if God had not have intervened, I would probably have been killed.

I believe that God was protecting us because we would have had to travel an insane amount of hours to make it to my Job by Sunday night at a decent time.  With me being sick and my wife very tired, who knows what would have happened along the way.  My illness forced us to rethink our plan and it worked out beautifully.  Thank you God.
