Internal beauty

I am sure you have heard people talk about internal vs external beauty.  So which is more important?  It all depends. I know, a very vague response.  So I will explain.

When you first meet a person what do you go based on?  You do not know this person.  My guess is that you are going base it off of your physically attraction for them.  It does not matter whether you are a guy or girl, the first thing that attracts you is their physical appearance.  It may be how they stand, walk, smile, look, clothes they wear, eyes, hair, etc.  You name it, something has drawn your attention towards that person.

What keeps you around will be mostly their internal beauty.  If you are very attracted to a person physically, but cannot stand them because of their attitude, then what will keep you around?  Nothing.  If you got married based on physical appearance, there is a good chance that you will be separated.   Not going to say it will happen 100%, but I believe it is high.

Now if you are not physically attracted to a person initially, but become so because of their internal beauty, then their is a good chance that your relationship will last.  This will be those instances when you ask the question why is that person with that person.  I am not going to say it will always last, because people change and what once attracted you to that person may now change.

Is this an excuse to get a divorce if you are married?  Absolutely not.  You take a vow that says for better or worse, but we only want the for better.  It is a time to communicate.

I know I got a bit off track, but I asked the question which is more important, internal or external beauty?  To me the answer is and always will be internal. So which do you think God is more interested in?

I cannot speak for God, but His word has told us that He cares more about our internal beauty than external.

1 Peter 3:3-4 New International Version (NIV)

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

This is not saying that you have an excuse to let your body go, because that is an entirely different subject which is also provided to us by God.  What it is saying is that stop trying to impress people with how you look and what you wear, but instead focus on making your self beautiful from the inside.
