My feelings are hurt and we need to do something about it. That is the attitude of people these days.
While the Bible does say to avoid harsh words, it does not say go back and basically rewrite history to avoid hurting peoples feelings.
Proverbs 15:1 New International Version (NIV)
15 A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
As I mentioned before, I am all for taking down all monuments if they represent false gods. However, why are we really doing this and where does this nonsense end?
Will we rename every building that is German sounding because of what happened to the Jews during World War II? Will we rename every city, town, state, building, or team because of what happened to the Indians? Will the Muslim names be removed from everything because of what happened on 9/11? Will all of us be made to change our names because it will be offensive to someone. What about anyone associated with the Black Panthers, IRA, KKK, etc. If everything is changed what will we call these people, places, and things: A, B, C, D or 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. We have to be careful in how we arrange these letters and numbers because to someone somewhere, it will be offensive. When will this madness stop?
There are committees popping up everywhere to address how these names, places, and things are potentially considered insensitive and what to do about them. Resources are tight and we are wasting it on things like this.
The world does not revolve around anyone of us. Our focus as a nation should be on God, but instead the Devil has diverted our attention to crap like this. The more we pay attention to this stuff, the more I feel it will draw us away from God, but hey what do I know.
So as a nation, lets start taking responsibility for our actions and admit that we are all sinners, lets trust God, lets do the Great Commission, lets fulfill the two Greatest Commandments stated by Jesus, and lets learn to act like Jesus. If we would just do these things, there really would be no time left to bicker with one another about our feelings being hurt because our focus would be driven to please God and doing God’s will.
