I find it amazing that we act like we know what love is, but I am not honestly sure we do. We want God to show us that He loves us, but hasn’t He already done that?
God sent His son to die for our sins so that we may have a chance to live eternity with God and Jesus. However, that does not seem to be good enough for a lot of people. In fact, we get mad a God for not doing as we want or not doing more or allowing evil to happen.
God has already told us what love is in 1 Corinthians 13:4-5:
1 Corinthians 13:4-5 New International Version (NIV)
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
This is not an easy thing to do since Adam sinned. However, God does expect us to try.
People are very confused about God’s love for us. In the verse above, God tells us what love is, but is this in regards to His love for us or our love for one another?
Is God patient? Yes! Is God kind? Yes! Does God envy? No! Does God boast? No! Is God proud? No! Does God dishonor others? No! Is God self-seeking? No! Is God easily angered? No! Does God keep a record of wrongs? No! If you answered differently to all of the questions, then I have to ask why. How do you see God?
In John 15:13, we are told there is no greater love than giving ones life for another. Did God not do this? Remember that in John 3:16. He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. In other words, man sinned against God, but God loved us enough to die for us. Wow! What a hateful, vengeful, and spiteful God. By that way that was sarcasm.
We need to stop our bickering about, whining to, complaining about, and blaming God. Instead we need to ask our self the question of how can I demonstrate to God that I love Him and His Son?
Please do not say that God needs to show you that He loves you first. He has already done that. Just because God is not the wish full-filler to make you wealthy or powerful or you name it, does not mean that He does not love you.
I remember when my kids were growing up and we went to the store they asked for everything as most kids do and most of the time they were told no. Not because we were mean, but because we did not have the money and the money we did have did not need to be spent on toys or junk food. I am sure my kids thought that my wife and I did not love them at times. If they looked around, their friends would get just about anything they wanted any time they wanted and cost did not matter. They did not understand.
Today most parents think they can buy their kids love by buying them whatever they want. I mean look at Christmas, some parents go into debt which takes them a year or longer to pay off to buy their kids 100’s if not 1000’s of dollars of stuff that they do not need.
If you are struggling with trying to understand if God loves you or not, simply ask Him. Be prepared to be answered in unconventional ways. There was a terrorist that turned Christian based on a bird that flew into his room. He had asked Allah to show him and nothing, then he asked God and a bird flew into his room. Also, read the Bible to understand not only God’s will, but His love for you. I pray that you will recognize God’s love for you and stop being so angry with Him.
