What is prayer

I am sure you have heard or read when some states they will keep you in their prayers or they will pray for you.  However, what is prayer?  Have you ever really asked that question because you just simply do not know?

Prayer is simply communicating with God. God wants us to communicate with Him.  Yes He may be all knowing, but that does not mean He wants you to be silent.  Are you married, have family that is alive, have really close friends, what about a boyfriend/girlfriend?  Do you say “I Love You” to them?  How often?   Is it once and then they are supposed to know that you love them from that point on or do you communicate on a regular basis.  Well God is the same way.  He wants us to communicate with Him on a regular basis.

Now I am sure some of you are going why?   It has already been stated, He knows everything so why do I need to talk to Him?  Aren’t there times when you know that the person you are talking to is going to ask you for or to do something, but they never get around to it?  It is almost as though they expect you to know and of course you do, but wouldn’t you rather have them come out and just ask?  I know I would. Since we are modeled after God, why would you think that He would be any different.

In my opinion, the best reason to establish a dialogue with Him is so you will actually get to know yourself better. It is amazing the insight you will get about who you really are when you just start talking and are openly honest.  See we can easily deceive ourselves, but when we talk to God and because He already knows everything it makes it more difficult for us to believe our own lies.

Then there is praying for someone else.  This act shows God that you really do care for others.  Sometimes, it may just be lip service, but to honestly pray for another is a great act of love.

I Know I mention this a lot, but I want to drive the point home that you have the choice.  You have the choice to sit there and do nothing or you can pray.  I pray that you will chose to start praying.  I will discuss later how to pray, but for now, just go talk to God.  He would love to hear your voice.
