I surrender

There is a song called I Surrender by Hillsong. This is a beautiful song and has a pretty powerful message and I advise you to listen to it again and again because I am sure that you will get something new each time you hear it.  We all need to surrender to God, but lets face it we do our absolute best to resist surrendering.  Why?

I am sure there are a lot of possibilities, but I can think of only one at the moment and that is pride.  We think we can fix everything ourselves; however, that is so far from the truth it is unreal.  Most of the time when we try to fix the problem we end of making it worse.  It is not until we get God involved that things seem to work the way it was intended.  Of course this my observation, but I am a bit biased.

God has told us to surrender to Him:

Romans 12:1-2 New International Version (NIV)

A Living Sacrifice

12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Now you can resist this and continue to live your life according to your will, but I can guarantee that you will be struggling most if not all the time.

Billy Graham said it very well “If you want a change in your life, if you want forgiveness and peace and joy that you’ve never known before, God demands total surrender. He becomes the Lord and the ruler of your life.”

Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version (NIV)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

So the next time you are struggling with whatever it may be, and you are unsure on how to fix the problem, then submit to God 100%. Do not hold anything back.  By doing this you are saying God I do not trust you 100%.  Really? I know this will be very difficult for most of us, but if you can put your pride away, you will experience something that you thought you would never have.

If you are thinking to yourself, “I am a self made man.”  How is that really working out for you?  Do you really have peace and joy in your life?  I would venture to bet that you are struggling, but you are too stubborn to admit it to anyone especially yourself.

Now I know I have already said this, but go to the Lord and submit to Him.  Believe it or not, we all submit to someone or something.  You may be thinking that “I do not submit to anyone.” or “People submit to me.” Wow! do you really believe that?

Last time I looked we all die of the flesh and therefore everyone of us will submit to that. So stop, and take a good hard look at your life.  You can deceive yourself in this task, but if you are really honest with yourself, then you will see what I am talking about.  Is there something that you cannot get rid of, but you have tried everything?  Get on your hands and knees in private and ask God for help.  After you submit, then relax and wait because God will answer in His own time and His own way.  In other words, be patient!

If you are wondering if I have submitted 100%, the answer is no, but I need too.  I know that may make my somewhat of a hypocrite and I am ok with that.  I never said I was perfect nor did I say I was completely humble.  Do I need to practice what I preach, so to speak, absolutely.  So please pray for me that I will submit 100% to the Lord versus trying to figure it out for myself and royally screw something up.
