Same Sex Marriage

I really struggle with the concept of same sex marriage.  I have heard many an argument for why it is ok such as they have found the gay gene, homosexual behavior is part of nature, it is my life and I will do as I please, who am I hurting by doing this, God will love and accept me as I am, my teachers have told me that it was ok, the government thinks it is ok, etc.  You name it and I have probably heard it.  However, that is not really the point. You may be thinking what?  Why did you go through all of this then?

The point is why am I not ok with it?  Is it due to the fact that it offends me or does it offend the Lord.  The simple truth is I do not know.  I personally find it disgusting, but I am not the person that is living a homosexual life.   Obviously they do not have  problem with their actions or they would change.

So the real question is does God find homosexual behavior to be unacceptable?  The answer is yes, but he finds all sin to be unacceptable.

1 Corinthians 6 New International Version (NIV)

Lawsuits Among Believers

If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!

The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters. Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Sexual Immorality

12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.

18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

In verse 9 homosexual behavior is specifically mentioned and that is the reason it should offend myself and any other Christian.  Not because it offends me, but it offends God.

So why then are so many Christian Churches seemingly rewriting Gods word?  I do not know, but I find it disturbing that they are.  Maybe because people are passing such harsh judgment  or demonstrating such hateful behavior.  Whatever the reason, the church will be held accountable, but so will those that pass judgment on those that commit sin.

So if we as Christians are not to pass judgment, then what should we do?  Should we accept homosexual behavior?  First I will say love them and pray for them.  Second It is your responsibility to tell them truth, not your truth, but Gods truth based on scripture.  Third, It is not a Christians job to change a person, that is reserved for God, The Holy Spirit, and Christ. With prayer, scripture, and Christ anyone whether homosexual or not can change.

So to those that find homosexual behavior to be appalling, you do not have to accept it, but you need to love them all the same.  You will need to seek guidance and forgiveness from the Lord if you have ever demonstrated hatred towards a person that is homosexual.

I pray that you open your heart to accept Gods word to hear and understand the truth.  This not only goes for the people that are homosexual, but all of those that pass judgment on the homosexuals. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Have a great and blessed day!
