Obesity is rampant in our country. The question is why?
Is it due to lack of discipline?
Is it due to sedentary lifestyle?
Is it due to eating the wrong foods?
Is it due to the desires of the flesh?
The answer is all of the above plus more.
I bet you are going great, I know what my problem is but how do I fix it and more importantly, why does it matter?
The answer is we need to monitor what we eat and what we do in our life. However, we need to really control our desires. My wife would disagree with me on some of it saying that at certain times of the month there are urges that cannot be controlled such as salt cravings.
This is all applicable because we have a choice, live according to the world and our fleshly desires or God’s will. The two are not synonymous everything that God wants us to do is in direct contradiction to what the world wants.
The problem is that we think that living according to the flesh gives us so much freedom compared to living according to God’s will. This is a lie and in fact makes us more slaves than anything else. We work hours upon hours to make money to buy things we really do not need.
Think about this way, when we live according to God’s will/way, then all of our worries go away. It does not mean we will have an abundance of money, but what we need to survive on. We may not have a lot of possessions, but treasures on earth are fleeting and can be stolen or destroyed at any point in time. We will end up having a more abundant life when we live by God’s will.
It is not easy to turn your back on the world and the desires of the flesh. If it were that easy, then everyone would be doing it and phrases such as “Keeping up with the Joneses.” would never have existed. However, Satan is whispering in your ear to work more hours, steal this item, do some illegal activity all to make money to buy stuff that you do not need. Instead of focusing on your desires, try taking that extra money and giving it to God.
This too is difficult and I know we have not done what we should. We give about 10%, but we do not give more. I try to give my time versus money because time is more precious to me than money.
