I have talked about the food we eat in the past. Recently, there was a conversation about our eating meat and that we do not need to eat meat because the largest animals on the planet are herbivores. This is an illogical cause and effect type analysis.
This makes the assumption that we can process plants like those animals. It is more realistic to think that their genetics allows them to only eat plants and process them for enough energy and nutrients to support their growth.
Now there is the argument that God only allowed us to eat certain types of food in Genesis.
Genesis 1:29 New International Version (NIV)
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
Based on this, it is logical that we are supposed to be plant eaters only, but it does not say that we are not to eat meat. Remember, that in Genesis, God explicitly tells us that we are not to eat the fruit from a specific tree. He never says that we are not to eat the animals. I would think that if God did not want us to eat any animals at all, He would have told us.
It might also be logical that in the beginning, we were supposed to only eat plants because there may not have been enough animals on the planet to sustain Adam and Eve. We had to give the animals enough time to multiply to eventually sustain human life.
Lets look at Herbivores vs Carnivores. Herbivores may be bigger, but typically, Carnivores are faster, stronger, and more cunning. Omnivores are big, strong, fast, and cunning.
Every Carnivore I have looked at has very sharp teeth for cutting into the flesh of it’s prey with very limited grinding teeth. Herbivores have teeth designed for cutting and grinding plants. Omnivores on the other hand typically have teeth that are designed for cutting through flesh and teeth for grinding.
Humans are omnivores. In other words, we are designed to each meat and plants. When we decide that we are going to eliminate one or the other from our diet, our diet suffers and so does our health.
