I heard on the radio today that love is not a feeling, but a decision and that we should Love Like Christ. Seems so simple to Love Like Christ, doesn’t it? Yet it is probably one of the most difficult things to do.
Christ was patient and kind. He did not boast nor was he envious. He did not easily anger. He was calm and gentle yet firm. He said some harsh things in gentle ways.
So how do we Love Like Christ? It requires a great deal of conscious effort on our part. We have to pay attention to how we are feeling and the way we are acting. In other words, we have to be in tune with ourselves.
Now can we do it all on our own? The answer is no. We need Christ in our lives and a relationship with God to truly Love Like Christ. If we could do it on our own, there would never be a need for God or Christ.
Why is loving another person the way Christ loved us so important? God is love and we as Christians represent God on Earth. However, Christians seems to be the most unloving people on the face of the planet.
Why would anyone want to know or understand God or Christ if all they felt was hatred, anger, resentment, rejection, impatience, unkindness, jealousy, arrogance, etc? The answer is they would not. Instead, they will seek where they are accepted and loved even if that is a false love.
You want to introduce people to Christ, then learn to love others as you love yourself. Learn to lean on God and ask Him for help. Learn to show grace, mercy, and forgiveness the way God has. Learn to Love Like Christ.
