Chosen People

In the old testament, the Israelite’s were the chosen people. Gentiles were adopted into Abraham’s family through faith and Jesus. This does not make the gentiles Jewish, but just part of the family.

So I a friend posed a question/comment. If the Israelite’s are the chosen people and the only way to Heaven is through salvation by Jesus, then what happens to those that do not believe Christ is the son of God? He also asked if the non-Christian Israelite’s are still the chosen people.

It was a good question. My comment was yes the Israelite’s are still the chosen people, but they like us must believe that Christ is the son of God, that He died for my sins, was risen on the third day, and ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of God. We are to show that we love Christ by our obedience to Him.

I pointed out the God would routinely punish His chosen people for committing sin. Just because they do not believe in Christ does not take away the fact they are His chosen people.

He then asked are we, Christians, now the chosen people? I do not think we are, but that is my opinion. I think we are adopted into Abraham’s family, but we are still gentiles, and if you are truly a Christian, then you are saved.

He had some reasons for asking which I will get into another time. I just ask that you pray for him, because I firmly believe he has some deep rooted anger.
