Why oh why do people have to be on the phone either talking or texting while driving? Tonight on the way home a young lady was on the phone in the left lane going 50 mph in a 65mph zone and she would not pass the truck. I got aggravated because I do not understand this behavior. If you are in the left lane then go, do not impede others. If you are afraid to pass a truck because of whatever may happen then stay in the right lane.
You may be asking how do I know she was on the phone. Eventually she passed the truck and got into the right lane to just make her exit. Since I knew there was no way I was going to make it around the truck before the same exit, I just got behind a bunch of cars that was behind the truck. It so happens that both the lady and I exited at about the same time.
As she is merging onto another road, she comes to a complete stop when there was no one around. Why? Well as soon as I can, I go past her and what is she on? Those stupid cell phones. I hate these tools.
I really wish every state would pass laws that prevent people from talking on these things unless it is to call the state police or dial 911 for an emergency. You get 3 strikes. The first is a $500 fine, the second is a $2000, and the third is a $5000 fine and the phone is confiscated and smashed on the spot. You may think that is a bit harsh, but the only way to get peoples attention is to hit them where it hurts most.
I can almost read your thoughts, wow don’t you think those fines are a bit steep? No, vehicles in the hands of a wrong person are killing machines. All cars weigh at least 1000 pounds and SUVs can weigh almost 8000 pounds. I do not care who you are, but flesh versus steel going even 25 mph is no contest, the steel is going to win. So no, I do not think the fines are too much.
I can almost hear it now, well I live in America and I can do what I want. That is true no matter where you live, but you still have consequences for your actions. Just here in America, we want to treat these incidents as though it is nothing and barely fine the person. In other words we barely slap the writs when the first needs a firm smacking to get their attention.
I really love it when people try to say well I have to talk to this person or text them back right now. I am like really! So what you are saying is you do not really care about any of the people behind you or even in front of you. As long as you can do what you want when you want it is all good. So what if you hit a car, hit a person, go 15-20 mph under the speed limit that is ok, you got to do what you wanted. In other words you are very selfish and it is all about you.
Do I expect people to be perfect all the time on the road, well yes, but that is an unrealistic expectation. I do expect you to use your mirrors and when you see a line of cars behind you to look at your speedometer and realize that you are probably impeding traffic and move over the right lane is there is one or pull off the road at your earliest opportunity to let those behind you pass. It was what you were taught and if not, shame on your instructors.
However, what I really expect is for you to be smart and not use your phones while driving. I just wish my horn were super loud so when I go by and you are on your phone and have impeded traffic for miles that I can blow the horn so you drop the phone. Is that an unchristian like attitude, probably. Do I want it to cause an accident, no. However, I do want you to pay attention to what you are doing and if having a super loud obnoxious horn is the way to do it, then that is what must be done. I for one am tired of almost getting hit by people who are on their stupid phones.
I have told my young adults kids who are on our insurance that if I catch them talking or texting on their cell phones while driving that they can find their own insurance. It may sound harsh to you, but I want them to understand that this is serious and their are consequences for your actions. Yes you can do what you want, but you will pay the price.
I believe that God is also saying the same to us. He gave you free will and you can do what you want, but their are consequences for your actions. I believe that He is just asking for one thing and that is for you to believe that His Son, Jesus, died on the cross for your sins and arose from the dead on the third day to ascend into Heaven and that Christ is your Lord and Savior. Is that all there is to it, no. However, it is the starting place for all Christians.
I pray that you make wise decisions while driving and that if you are one of these people that uses their phones that you make it home safe and never hurt anyone. I also pray that stop using your phones while driving.
May God bless you.
