Surprising the Wife

It is good for us men to surprise our wives occasionally. Of course that is my opinion, but I believe it lets them know when we do those little things that we normally do not do, that we love them.

I travel a lot and when I can, I try to get home early. I try to surprise my wife when this happens, but she is pretty sharp.

I would say that her success rate is 98% or better at guessing when I am going to come home early.  There was only one other time that I can think of that came close.

Today I got her.  She had no idea that the client had basically told us to go home early for the holiday since most of the employees would not be onsite.

I changed the ticket and used the credit card and that was my only concern.  Would she see two airline charges within an hour of each other and get suspicious.  Thankfully, she did not check.

I opened the door and it took her a few seconds to realize who it was, but she was very happy that I was home early.  Our God also likes to surprise us. There are many Bible versus where He is the God of Surprises but one of my favorites is:

1 Corinthians 1:27 New International Ver,sion (NIV)

24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

Here is the best surprise after we, mankind, have sinned:

John 3:16-21 New International Version (NIV)

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

He could have just let us suffer and think we would be saved through the law, but He did not because He loves each and everyone of us.  He gave everyone that was before, during, and after the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ a way to spend eternal life with Him.
