Have you ever heard of the term deliverance? Have you asked yourself what does it mean?
Deliverance in this context is Spiritual Deliverance and it means to be rescued from bondage or danger or to be set free. It is where God will rescue people from peril
Who needs deliverance?
I am going to say everyone has some kind of spiritual stronghold. This does not mean that everyone is possessed, but rather most are oppressed. Those who have been saved cannot be possessed because they are protected; however, that does not mean they cannot have demonic spirits present in their lives trying to convince them to turn away from Christ. Those who are not saved could be either possessed or oppressed, but there will plays an important part.
But what is a spiritual stronghold?
Spiritual strongholds are strongly established sinful ways, false beliefs, and behaviors, that have gained a strong influence over a person to the extent that each stronghold sets itself up against the knowledge or will of God. This will include things such as believing abortion is acceptable, that pornography is okay, that acting out in rage against another is allowable, etc…
Should everyone undergo deliverance?
Yes and no. Those who have been saved should go through deliverance if there are areas in your life that you believe are not compatible with Jesus’s way. However, that void needs to be filled with something, so pray to receive more of the Holy Spirit otherwise it is possible that something worse could find its way in. For those that have not been saved, then no do not undergo deliverance at this time. Rather it is better to bind those spirits that are present to allow the individual to see and hear the truth. If you deliver a person that has not been saved, then there is a high probability that something or somethings seven times worse will enter the person.
Who should perform the deliverance?
Actually anyone can perform a deliverance, but it is better left to those that have had experience. Deliverance is successful because it is in Jesus’s name that we are to be set free. However, there are a few steps that one must go through first and this is where an experienced person can really help. Furthermore, we are required to confess our sins one to another.
Is deliverance scary?
As a person who has undergone a deliverance, no it is not scary. It is rather refreshing when you have been set free. It does not mean that there are not possibly some traumatic events during the session, but you will feel better in the end. Some of things you could expect are to yawn, cry, cough, lots of phlegm, sneezing, and possibly vomiting.
Can’t Psychology explain it all?
The answer is no. As I have stated in another post, Psychology is nothing more than mans attempt to explain that which he does not know. Furthermore, Psychology only looks at the mind and the mind/body relationship. It completely leaves out the spiritual element. As humans we are made of mind, body, and spirit. To leave 1/3 of our existence out is asking for trouble and explains why a lot of people cannot be healed.

What does the Bible say about deliverance?
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 New International Version (NIV)
3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.
Matthew 10:7-8 New International Version (NIV)
7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,[a] drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
