People will worship something, but what is the question. Look around these days, what do people seem to worship? The most common answer is money, but they will worship other things as well.
On Saturday and Sunday people will worship the football gods as they sit in front of their TVs paying homage to the players or teams they love the most. They will provide food and drink offerings and chow them down until they are stuffed or drink them until they are intoxicated. Some will even combine gods such as money and football in an attempt to make more money.
Then there are the entertainment gods such as pop singers, actors, athletes, and even politicians. People follow every word and thing they do in an attempt to live like them. These people want to get closer to them in an attempt to have some kind of relationship as though these so called gods will even acknowledge their presence.
Then there are the material gods as people try to accumulate more and more stuff as though this can help them with what they want most, a relationship. These people will accumulate stuff at any expense. I do realize that sometimes inanimate objects are much easier to talk to than people, but material things can never replace people and people can never replace God.
Then there is the money God. These people do not necessarily want things as much as they want more and more money. These people view money above all. They will invest in stocks, gamble, sell their very souls in an attempt to have more money. Typically the money god goes hand in hand with the power god. It is mans attempt at being like our heavenly Father. As though if I have power I can do what I want to others and they have to accept their fate.
Are the above gods the only gods, no. We as humans have many gods all in an attempt to fill that hole in our chest where only God can reside. We fool ourselves into thinking that with all this other stuff we are happy and for a time that may be true, but in the end people are never happy with their god choice. These people may even turn to other gods to make themselves happy, but it never seems to work. They still crave something, but are unwilling to acknowledge that they need God.
People make the comments about why doesn’t God just force us to worship Him. If he did that, then there would never be free will and people would be like puppets. God wants you to come to Him because as He loved you, He wants you to love Him. So my question is do you worship God or god?
