Americans and Drama

It is my opinion, that Americans love drama and the more the better.  This may be true in other countries as well, but not sure.  You may be wondering why I say this.

Look at any sports game, the closer the game the better you like it even if your team loses. Are you happy about the loss?  Of course not, but you think your team made a good effort.  I am here to tell you that the advertisers, casinos, and bookies are well aware of this and use it to their advantage.

I remember when the Bears versus the Patriots in 1986 where the score the final score was 46-10 in favor of the Bears.  I also remember that at half time almost everyone turned off the TV or went to other channels.  You can bet the network and the advertisers were not happy when this happened.  I also remember hearing that this sort of thing would never happen again.

Jump forward to present day and where there are huge numbers of people watching how close are the games?  How much drama is there in today’s games compared to thirty years ago?  This next statement will have you all thinking that I am a conspiracy theorist, and I am. Where there is the perception of money, power, and fame, people will do whatever they can to control the situation.  So I believe that every sports game is fixed in as much as you can possibly fix a game without everyone in the world knowing how it is going to turn out.  Of course in sports like Baseball, Soccer, and Football as well as others that require a lot of team members it is a little more difficult to control, but they do the best job they can.  I will go one step further and say that the power that be already know who is going to win the big events for that year.

You may be wondering what evidence do I have?  Look at the 800+ soccer games that were fixed or look at the Basketball games that were fixed, and then we have Boxing which is notorious for fixing fights.  For most sports games, it comes down to one thing, how much money are the casinos or bookies going to lose.  The more that is bet on one team or another the better chance there is that someone will upset the balance. If you have ever been to a casino, you know that the odds are in the houses favor. Not just because of how the game is played, but the people who shuffle the cards can manipulate the decks to their advantage and then again you will have that person who will just upset the whole balance of the game.  If the house starts paying out too much, they will remove the deck, remove the dealer, or close the table.

They all use drama to entice the people to bet more money or to pay attention longer for that commercial.  After all who wants to leave when the Football score is 35-34 with less than a minute to play and your team is losing, but has the ball and is on the move?  No one.  People are being manipulated by the Devil and do not even know it.  The more drama he can stir up the more it will pull you away from the Lord.  Think about it.  What are you more likely to do in the face of a lot of Drama?  Would you gossip, get revenge, refuse to communicate with the person causing the drama, overreact to situations, make assumptions about others based,  go into the woe is me syndrome, etc.?

Stop the drama!

1 Thessalonians 4:9-12 New International Version (NIV)

Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. 10 And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more, 11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

Galatians 5:13-17 New International Version (NIV)

Life by the Spirit

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

Romans 12:1-2 New International Version (NIV)

A Living Sacrifice

12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
