Are things worth fighting for?

My brother-in-law has recently posted about fighting for things and being tired of them being taken away.  He further commented that those things that are not worth fighting for will always  be there.  What?  I will not go into the rest of that post or the one he made after that, but he is a bit off his rocker so to speak.

The answer to are things worth fighting for, it depends.  If you are thinking what?  Everything is worth fighting for, well you are wrong.  Sorry!

If you are trying to fight for worldly things, then that is the wrong thing to fight for.

Romans 12:2 New International Version (NIV)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

1 John 2:15 New International Version (NIV)

On Not Loving the World

15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

John 15:19 New International Version (NIV)

19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

The three Bible verses above are about being a part of this world, because we are, but it is also about not wanting what the world (flesh or Satan) wants.

So you see the answer to fight for something depends. If you are fighting for worldly stuff which for one is only temporary and can you lead you down a path of destruction to the point where that becomes your god, then you are fighting for the wrong things.

You should be fighting for your eternal life and those things that matter to God. You should be fighting for Jesus as in my previous post to become a soldier for Him.

Ask yourself this one question, is there one thing you would not give up out of all the stuff you have fought for, I am not talking about another human, that is part of the world system if your life/soul depended upon it?  If the answer is yes, then I urge you to go seek help.

You need the following: Food, Water, Clothes, and Shelter. The rest of the things you are fighting for are fleeting things such as money, power, fame, prestige, material possessions, etc.  God has already said He will provide through the message that Christ presented:

Matthew 6 New International Version (NIV)

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I pray that you fight for the right things in your life.  I ask the Lord to help you with the worrying you may have about those things that He will provide. I pray that you have the strength to reject Satan and His worldly ways and draw closer to the Lord.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
