Christian Universalism

I never knew this existed until tonight when my daughter was talking about it in relation to a new movie, “The Shack”, she recently saw.  Apparently, in this movie there is allusion to that everyone is saved, past, present, and future, when Christ died on the cross and that what you do now does not matter because we are all going to Heaven.  In Heaven our relationship with God will be restored to the way it was supposed to be.

The problem with this concept is that this totally contradicts what God has said.

Romans 3:23 New International Version (NIV)

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 6:23 New International Version (NIV)

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Luke 13:23-27 New International Version (NIV)

23 Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”

He said to them, 24 “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 25 Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’

“But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’

26 “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’

27 “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’

Mark 10:23-26 New International Version (NIV)

23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”

24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?”

It is true that Christ died for your sins, but what you do in this life does matter.  God cannot be in the presence of sin:

Isaiah 59:2 New International Version (NIV)

But your iniquities have separated
    you from your God;
your sins have hidden his face from you,
so that he will not hear.

What Christian Universalism does is twist and distort the truth of the Bible so that people do not have to take responsibility for their actions.  If you are a Christian, then you want to be like Christ.  Those are some hard shoes to fill, but that is our goal.

Saying you can live as you like and that it does not matter is contradicting and confusing to what the Bible says.  You either believe that the Bible is the word of God or you do not and you either believe what Christ said in the Bible is true or it is not.

I pray that you do not fall for this religion.  Instead of believe me or anyone else, I urge you to pick up the Bible and read it.  I suggest you read the entire Bible, but if that is difficult, then at least start with the New Testament.  Please do not read the Bible to get through it as fast as possible, but rather study it and come to your own conclusions.
