I have a friend who is a Freemason. While he never talked about that organization much, I do know that he was a high ranking person at one time. He is still proud of that organization and I can’t help but wonder if he is not contemplating going back in to the organization.
The pastor of our church and the Ex-Freemason apparently had a discussion about the organization. The pastor did not agree with their religious philosophy, but did say that do awesome charity work. While I was not there, the Ex-Freemason explained that the pastor was basically saying they were not Christian. Based on everything I have read, I have to agree.
Now the Ex-Freemason was upset so I guess he started questioning Christianity in its totality. He told me that his order of importance is his wife, God, then country. That is a bit backwards from a Christian point of view where God and Christ are to come first, then your family, then whatever. I tried to explain to him that you will be helping your wife by putting God and Christ first. Now I think they were both upset, so I am thinking they really do not understand.
He further went on to ask me, is everyone else really going to Hell without Christ? I told him that is what the Bible says and either you believe all of the Bible or you believe none of it. Once you start questioning the validity of the Bible, how can you decide what part of the Bible is true and what is not? How do you know what part of the Bible to follow? His reply was that all of he religions have similar information in their books, so what makes the Bible the authoritative book?
His belief is that you will go be with God if you are good and cannot understand or accept that a murderer would be allowed entry to be with God. In fact his words were there is no way a murderer would be allowed. I explained that if you believe the Bible, then when Jesus was crucified alongside the two thieves, that there is forgiveness by God at any phase. Now if you claim to be saved and then turn around and go kill someone, then I am not sure you were saved initially.
He went on to tell me that he really does not believe in Satan or Hell, and that he told our pastor all of this as well. He has not been in church much recently and I understand why the pastor is a bit concerned. Now the pastor has never told me anything, but based on what I am seeing and hearing, it is starting to make sense.
The Ex-Freemason is a good guy and I believe that he would give you the shirt off his back. He would help you out at anytime with anything, as long as he is physically able. However, I also believe that unless he changes that he will end up in Hell. That is not something I want for anyone, and I mean anyone. So my only option is to live my life as a Christian and love this family until they ask me why.
Please pray for the Ex-Freemason and his wife in that they will understand and accept Christ as their Lord and Savior. I know that sometimes baby steps are needed, so pray that they will start to see how God is working in their lives. Also pray that he will accept the Bible as it is written. In Jesus name I pray for this, Amen.
