God My Buddy

So too often these days, we do not fear the Lord nor do we treat Him with respect.  We use terms like God is my friend or God is my buddy.  Sorry to burst your bubble, but God is neither.

God is Lord over all and is therefore above you at all times.  God is to be feared as stated in:

Deuteronomy 10:20 New International Version (NIV)

20 Fear the Lord your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.

You are God’s creation, end of story. Because God created us, He can ultimately decide what happens to us.  However, that does not mean He will control us.  God gave us free will and expects us to use it, but He also expects us to do His will.

My advice on this is simple, speak to God as though you are speaking to someone who has absolute authority.  Learn to respect God as though He could wipe you off the face of the planet in the blink of an eye. Learn to act the way Jesus acted or in other words ask yourself what would Jesus do?   Learn to seek God and spend time with Him.  Learn to trust God. Finally, learn what God’s will is for you.

Sounds hard and in some ways it is, but the rewards are great.

So stop acting like God is your buddy/pal and start acting as though He is Lord over all.
