I Am A Sinner

As the title says, I am a sinner. But was is sin? Sin is missing the mark or going against God’s will. Now we have a book that tells us how we are to live and that is the Bible and to go against that is one way to sin.

Romans 3:23-24 English Standard Version (ESV)

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

So now that you know I told you nothing new, lets look at how I am sinner.

  • I am angry at people in general and actually let my anger cause me to sin.
  • I have little sympathy and/or compassion for most people.
  • I have multiple idols (Guns, Constitution, Material Goods, etc.).
  • I have been jealous of other people’s stuff.
  • I’ve used the Lords name in vein.
  • There are people I hate.
  • I rely upon myself rather than God.

So yes I think I am a sinner.

Do I want to be a sinner? Well the answer to that is No. Lets take a look at what Paul wrote.

Romans 7:15-25 English Standard Version (ESV)

15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. 17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

I know that to overcome sin, I cannot do this on my own and need the help of God through Christ. I need to obey Christ which by the way is no easy task, but it is something I need to do.

One of the things I can do is to ask God for help through prayer and I invite you to the same.
