Love is kind

I was reading a devotional about love and one of the things is that love is kind.  Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 to find out what love is.  One of the things is that love is kind.

What does this mean?  To truly understand what it means, you have to go back to ancient Greek.  The Greek word ultimately comes from charo which means to furnish/provide what is needful.

We take love is kind to mean to express kindness, but it is more than that.  It means providing people what they need, being and honest and dependable person.

When we help others, we are being kind, but it is more than that.  Lets try to understand this by examining God.

If God is love and love is kind, then God is kind.  However, many people will not see that aspect of God.  They feel that because they have asked God for something, that is what they really need.  No that is what they really want.

If these people would dig deep and take a hard look at themselves, they would see that what they want is not what they need.  God will provide you what you need.  God wants you to spend eternity with Him in Heaven.

So what did God do, He sent His son to die for your sins.  That is what you needed.  You needed a way into Heaven and God provided that way.  Now what you may have wanted was for God to say come on in, I can be in the presence of sin.  However, that is not God.  He cannot be in the presence of sin.  Because He knew this and maybe it was not 100% clear to us, He was kind enough to help and provide that way.

So the next time you are angry with God because He did not give you what you wanted, stop and think.  Then ask yourself did God really provided what  you needed?  I will be almost anything the answer is yes.

Be thankful that God is kind otherwise we would all end up in Hell because of our sin.  Stop and think about that for a moment.
