There has been a lot of talk recently about Confederate monuments and statues and their removal. People are just too easily offended these days and anything that upsets them should be removed. What they do not realized is that they are asking for trouble and this is already evident throughout the country.
Romans 1:23 New International Version (NIV)
23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
Ecclesiastes 7:21-22 New International Version (NIV)
21 Do not pay attention to every word people say,
or you may hear your servant cursing you—
22 for you know in your heart
that many times you yourself have cursed others.
Do I agree with the removal of these monuments and statues? Yes, but not for the reasons you may be thinking. Do I think these monuments and statues represent slavery? No, and anyone that tells you they do does not really understand the Civil War.
The Civil War was not so much about slavery as it was about the States rights versus the Federal governments rights. The southern states wanted to succeed to preserver their way of life and yes that included slavery. What people do not understand is that the north also had slaves and by some accounts more than the south. However, throughout the country and yes even in the south, slavery was already on the decline. There is no guarantee that had the south succeeded that slavery would be around today.
I agree with the removal of the statues and monuments because anything that could be considered an idol and replace God should be removed. Why are people so adamant about keeping or removing these items? If it is because they might offend God or them, or are they worshiping these idols? Whatever the reason, people really need to get their priorities in order.
If you are struggling with idols or being easily offended, then I urge you to pray to God and ask for help.
