More of you Lord

The pastor said something that resonated with me today.  He made the comment that he started praying one way, then it changed, then it changed again.  I could relate to that because my prayers have changed as well.

The pastor said that when he started praying it was more for him, but then he changed to wisdom, peace, and compassion, and then it change to more of you Lord.  What he realized is that when he prayed to have more of God in his life, he was getting all of the other things he had prayed for.

That made sense to my simple brain.  If I pray for more God in my life, then I too will be getting compassion, peace, wisdom, patience, love, forgiveness, etc.

We all want things and expect God to give it to us, but we are not praying for what God wants us to, but rather what we want. If we ask for more of God, then we will change what we pray for.

So the real question is what do you pray for?  Do you pray for money, a house, a car, friends, someone you can date, a spouse or do you pray for wisdom, peace, compassion, patience, forgiveness, mercy, grace, or do you pray for more of Jesus and God?

It really depends on where you are in your relationship with God.  When you have a newer relationship, you pray more selfishly, when you have a more of a young adult relationship, you will pray for those things like Solomon did, and when you have a very mature relationship, you will pray for more of God.

Getting to that point of where you want more of just God in your life can be a very long journey.  Are you will to take that first step of the journey?
