Rejection

One of the greatest fears of any person is being rejected.  Unfortunately it happens a lot.  We have the school clicks where the jocks and/or popular kids get together and unless you fit into that crowd, you will feel like an outsider.   This is also true for the nerds, they have their own group and can make people feel unwelcome if they try to join.

If you think that only kids have clicks and reject people, then think again.  Even adults will reject people for being the wrong race, sex, age, gender, height, weight, odor, etc.

When we are rejected, we have a tendency  feel like we are not wanted, we are not loved, or we have no value.  Once you have experienced rejection, it is possible that you will come to expect this on a more regular basis.  Ultimately , this can lead to self destruction.

So let me introduce you to someone that does not reject you, unless you reject him and that is Jesus.

John 6:36-39 New International Version (NIV)

36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.

Mark 3:20-35 New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Accused by His Family and by Teachers of the Law

20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”

23 So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house. 28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”

30 He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”

31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”

33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.

34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

Jesus does not want to let you go, but if that is your desire, He will oblige you.  Just remember that for Him to reject you that you must first reject Him. If you decide not to reject Him, He will expect you to change.  This is where people get upset, they expect Jesus to accept them as they are with their sins and to acknowledge them before God.  However, we already know that God cannot be in the presence of sin.  We want to flip this around and say that both Jesus and God have rejected me. Since we already know their expectations, are Jesus and God rejecting us, or are rejecting them?
