It is my opinion but when the big things happen in our lives, we will typically give thanks to God. However, what about the simple things.
Today, I was taking apart my sons transmission and having a heck of a time following the instructions that were provided to remove the housing. With the help of my wife, I was able to get it apart. Did I give thanks to God, no.
Then I decided to take apart the rest of the transmission so I could clean it. I was on the last item and felt something hit my arm. I knew instantly what had happened. There was a spring loaded ball that was part of the system and when I removed the rod, it shot out. My biggest fear was that it was gone. My first thought was I pray that it bounced off my arm and ended up in the transmission. I did not see it so I went to get my wife. I asked her to bring out a flashlight. I got the large magnet and was ready to search the area. Then I think God spoke to me and said check the transmission. There it was, hidden behind a spring on a ledge. Removed the spring and used a magnet to get the ball. My wife reminded me to say “Thank you to God”. I did.
Now for some of you that may have been a big thing as this would have most likely resulted in me buying a new transmission if I could not find a ball replacement. However, to me it is a small thing. It was then I realized that we give thanks to God for the big things, but not necessarily for the small things.
If you are the type of person that only gives thanks to God for when something major happens in your life, then I pray that you will be open to change and start giving thanks for the small things. More often than not, we are going to encounter more small things in our life than large.
