Soul mate

I was talking to a coworker and asked him how he had met his wife.  He gave the semi-detailed story, then he made a comment that made me stop and pause.  He knew she was the one because he never thought about being with another woman and has not since they were married.

So it made me think back to when I met my wife.  I have to say the same.  After I started dating her, I knew she was the one and there would never be anyone else in my life.  That is not to say that we have not had our ups and downs, but I did not want to be with anyone else.

I know because I travel a lot, that at times my wife has thought I was cheating on her or that there was someone that was potentially replacing her in my life.  Nothing could ever be further from the truth, but that is hard to provee when your mind is already made up.

I have not read any verse in the Bible that talks about soul mates, but I have read many verses about how a man is treat his wife, that the two will become one flesh, that a man will have to find a wife, and that being unequally yoked can cause problems.

I believe that God allowed us to meet, but that it was up to the two us to take that and make something of it.   We were unequally yoked and it was through my wife’s love, constant prayer, and just about hitting rock bottom emotionally that I came to the Lord.

Once you put the Lord first and I will not say that has always been the case with our household, I believe that He blesses and strengthens your marriage.  Our marriage is not perfect and probably never will be, but I do believe that we have a stronger relationship today than we did 21 years ago and it is all due to the Lord.

Do not give up when things get tough, but your trust in the Lord.  If you are married to a person who is a non-believer and they want to leave, let them.  That is not an easy thing to say, but it is what you have to do.  My wife and I almost divorced within about a year or two of marriage.  I am thankful now that it did not happen and that I became a believer.  None of this would have been possible without God, so thank you Lord.
