The other day I talked about “The Evil I Do” and basically said that it is sin or going against God’s will. Well today on the way home, I would consider this evil.
I was in the left lane going 60mph in a 60mph zone. I came up on two vehicles who would not get over and were going about 50mph. Well this pretty much infuriates me as there are rules of the road that most people are taught. Yes they may not have been taught that the left lane is for passing and the right lane is for driving, but honestly that is not my concern. As a concealed gun carry permit owner, I am expected to know the laws of each state I travel through and if I need to show my permit or not. I expect people to know the laws of the state regarding driving on interstates and other roads. Ignorance of the law is no excuse for not knowing the law.
I was behind these two for about 5 miles because they were almost even with other cars and when they approached a truck they would slow down to almost 40mph. The first opportunity I did what I hate doing and that is weaving in and out of traffic to get around them. In the process as I drove by each of them, I gave them the finger.
This is where I am talking about “The Evil I Do”. If i believed that God wanted me to flip them off, then there is no sin and no evil. However, God has instructed me to love my neighbor as myself. To pray for my enemies. To be careful of using harsh words as this can spark wrath, etc.
I do not believe that God wanted me to flip them off and I even got that feeling about just do not do it, but I did it anyway. Why?
It was a though I felt compelled to let them know my frustration and they only way to really do this effectively and quickly was to flip them off. I should have listened to that inner voice which I believe was God trying to communicate with me, but my flesh or Satan convinced me otherwise.
Some of you may not consider that evil, but is it what God would really want you to do? I will venture to guess that the answer is no. As I was talking to one of my colleagues today, we need to pick which battles we really want to fight. We could fight them all, but I am not sure God would want you too. In fact, if you look at Jesus and when He did fight back, it was not to protect Himself or His disciples, but rather when He knew it would offend God. In other words, Christ chose which battles to fight.
