Three Strand

My pastor has started something called Three Strand.  He and his wife do this out of their house so it it is less pressure.  Lets face it, being at a church and in the sanctuary has some pressure associated with it, even though it is not supposed too.

I was asked today what is Three Strand?  The best explanation I could give was that it is a way for people to come together to talk about their problems/what is hurting them and at the same time have support.  A single person traveling down this path will easily be defeated and two can defend themselves, but they too will be overcome; however, with three or more it becomes very difficult to defeat.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 New International Version (NIV)

12 Though one may be overpowered,
    two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

a single person can easily be a victim.  It is possible for Satan or any of his minions to attack and defeat a single person.  It is possible for even the strongest of believers to succumb when they are alone.  In other words it is better not to be a lone wolf so to speak.

Two people is harder to overcome, but even two can be defeated. Think of two as being a husband and wife.  Each can help to support the other, but if both are mislead, then their union can fail.  They are one flesh, but as a couple they can go down the wrong path.

However, if there is a group of three, then it becomes more difficult to defeat a single person or even two because the third will always be there to guide the other two.  Think of this as being the husband, wife, and God.  While the husband and wife may fail, God will never fail.  By having God in their lives, they will always succeed.

Another way to look at this is to take three very thin strands of thread.  One thread can be easily broken.  Now twisted two together and it becomes much harder.  Now twist three together and it  becomes near impossible.  However, if you take anyone strand alone it becomes much easier to break.  In other words, God needs to be involved in our lives, not just a piece of string hanging off to the side to use or have whenever we like.   If God is woven into our life then it is near impossible to break.

So the next time you think you can go at it alone, remember that a single cord can easily be broken, but a cord of three is near impossible. In other words, do not take Satan on alone.  Have backup and by that I mean Jesus and God.   With those two at your side, there isn’t anything that cannot be done.
