I am so sick and tired of hearing the media, politicians, celebrities, etc report that there is a wage gap between men and women.
First off when they are talking about wage gaps, they are looking at the entire workforce which is completely wrong. Some jobs simply do not pay as much as others and it seems like those are the ones most women follow.
So when you want to compare salaries, lets look at men and women in the same field ,with the same experience, with the same responsibilities, etc. I will tell you right now when you do that, most women are actually paid more than their male counterparts because of this junk about women getting paid less.
About a month or two ago, my son’s girlfriend told me a story about a female educator who was promoted to be in charge of the science department for all the high schools in this one county. At the same time, a man was promoted to be in charge of some sports program. The man was paid about 30k more than the woman, but actually had less experience than the woman.
I was upset just based on one statistic, experience. Then I thought to myself why was the man paid more in a time where there is such attention to men getting paid more than women. So I asked my son’s girlfriend a bunch of questions like:
- Who has more responsibility?
- Do we know how the interview went for each candidate?
- Did the man fight for a higher salary?
- Is the man in charge of all the sports programs or just school gym/fitness?
- Did the woman ask for money or try to fight to get more?
- Does the man have to travel more than the woman?
- Were the two jobs exactly the same?
She did not know the answer to those questions except for one and that was the woman did fight to get more money and was given an additional 10k more in salary. Now most of you feminist will still argue that the man got paid more without knowing the entire situation. There is inequality, but was there really?
I will agree if everything was equal and I mean everything then they should get paid exactly the same amount. However, our society says that if two people have jobs that are similar, then they should get paid the same and that is not true nor is it fair.
Similar is not the same as equal. That would be something like I am an Engineer Level 1 who just graduated from college and just started working for this company compared to an Engineer Level 1 who has been working for the company for two years. We may have the same title, but we do not necessarily have the same job and even if we did have the same job, the other person has two years of experience. So we are still not equal.
Now lets look at the Bible. God does not say that all of you shall be treated equally with responsibilities? Read Matthew 25:14–30 about the parable of the talents.
Also, God does not say everyone can come to Heaven because they want too, but rather we have a path we are supposed to follow which is the same for all. If you choose one path, you go directly to Hell and if you choose the other path, you go directly to Heaven when you die.
I pray that you are not one of those that sits around and whines about not making as much money as the next person, but rather you do your best job with the expectation that it will pay off down the road. You know what I am going to do? I am going to tell you to pray and accept the answer that is given.
God may tell you that you will always be poor or He may tell you that His grace is sufficient or He may tell you to work harder, but do it for Him. There are many responses the Lord could provide as a result of your prayer, but no matter what be content.
