Can darkness extinguish light? The answer is no. You can see a tiny light for miles and mile in darkness, but can you see a tiny spec of darkness for miles and mile in light? No! You can do your best to block out all physical light, but it will still get in.
So which is more powerful, light or dark? It is light.
Jesus is the light of the world:
John 8:12 New International Version (NIV)
Dispute Over Jesus’ Testimony
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
This is not the kind of light that you physically see which is important, but spiritual light. Sin leads us into spiritual darkness and the end result is death. Christ came so that we know where the light is and which path to follow. If we follow Him, then we will go to be with Him when we physically die. However, Satan will also send out light, but it will be a false light leading you down the wrong path.
There are times when we think we are doing the right thing, but it is actually not. We are suppose to love everyone, but that does not mean we should be ok with what everyone does. Our goals as a Christian are to help people see the true light, but we ourselves must also see that light and be following that path. We cannot force people to follow that light however.
This does not mean that you will not see a light that you want to follow temporarily. Lets face it, Satan makes it very tempting to follow these false lights by lying to us. Plus, we have our own flesh to deal with and it will definitely want us to follow false lights. However, if we are in Jesus and Jesus is in us, then we should be able to quickly discern that the light we are following is a false light.
God gave you free will. Therefore, you have the choice to follow the real light or the false lights. The question is which do you want to follow? Choosing to follow the real light is not an easy path, but the reward is great if we do.
