Our actions have consequences, but we just do not think they should.
Romans 6:23 New International Version (NIV)
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord.
I am not sure what is so difficult by this verse. To me it is crystal clear so what is the problem?
We were given freewill and since the sin of Adam, we have been paying for it. Some reason though, we think that God should accept us and our sin. This is not reality and it is time that we wake up.
Our parents and justice system even teaches us that it is not our fault. Our parents teach us that we are special and that we should be able to do what we want, how we want and when we want as long as we do not go against them or as long as it does not hurt others. It does not matter if it is right or wrong since everyone has their own version of what is right. The justice system teaches us that if we are on drugs or alcohol, then we have an excuse for your behavior.
When we get in to a situation where the excuses run out, that is when the justice system really starts to punish. People very quickly realize that they cannot do what they want in these situations and are either fined or are sent to jail/prison. They get mad when the judge or jury passes judgement on them that is not favorable because they fail to realize that their actions have consequences.
Then we have the situation where people do as they wish and want the government to figure out what is wrong with them when they engage in activities that are not conducive to good health. This goes back to the principle of I should do what I want, when I want, and how I want without any consequences. Take the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Males want to have sex with males or people want to reuse needles, but hey the government needs to find a cure so they can continue in their activities versus changing their activities to something that is not sinful.
This is exactly how they treat God. As mentioned, people think that God should just accept them for who they are and He does, but that does not mean that they do not get punished. This is where we fail to understand. We want to say that if God is love, then He would let me do what I want. Instead we should be saying is what I am doing showing God that I love Him. God has demonstrated His love over and over and the greatest act of love was to send His son to die for our sins.
So the question is will you use that freewill to continue to sin or will you use that freewill to repent and show God that you love Him?
