There are so many diets out there these days. The Atkins, Slow Carb, Paleo, Mediterranean, Weight Watchers, South Beach, The Zone, Nutrisystems, Hunter/Farmer and the lost goes on and on. All of these promote eating healthier, but they all have a slightly different twist to make them sort of unique. I am currently doing the Slow Carb diet and I seem to have plenty of energy and I am losing weight.
On the Slow Carb diet, you eat pretty much whatever meat you want, you eat vegetables, and you eat Beans/Lentils. You are not to eat any white type foods such as potatoes, sugar, flour, pasta, rice, etc. You are also not to eat any fruit or dairy and you are not to drink your meals. Dairy does have one exception and that is Cottage Cheese and you can drink a smoothie that is approved. You are to eat the same few meals over and over again. However, one day per week you can cheat and eat whatever you want. That may be confusing so be thankful you can just type Slow Carb diet in Google and review it for yourself.
My wife and I were discussing the diet and in Genesis it mentions what we can eat.
Genesis 1:29-30 New International Version (NIV)
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
Later on, God makes all food clean when Christ says:
Mark 7:17-19 New International Version (NIV)
17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)
In Acts 10, Peter refuses to eat food that he considers unclean and an angle corrects him in saying do not call unclean what God has made clean.
Now while God may have given us a list of foods we can eat in Genesis, it does not take into consideration what man has done to that food. We have manipulated and altered over time the ancient food to get the food we have today. I read an article that shows what wild fruits and vegetables look like compared to the modern food and you would be amazed how the food has changed. After I saw this, is it any wonder why we are obese? Also, you need to ask yourself this question. How do those that wrote the article really know what food looked like 1000’s upon 1000’s of years ago? Were they assuming that what grows in the wild is equivalent to food from 6000 years ago? Does it really matter?
The real point is that we should be eating food that is natural instead of processed. That is my goal and so far it seems to be working. The real question is, is this type of diet sustainable? Time will tell.
