What is bitterness:
anger and disappointment at being treated unfairly; resentment.
So many many of us are bitter, but why? If I had to guess, we feel we have been treated unfairly. Our lives are not where we expect them to be, we have been passed over for promotions, we travel for work all the time, we treated differently than others because of ??????
So let me ask you one question: Were you killed for no reason only to take on everyone’s sin so there is a chance for you to be saved? No, well Christ was. So who was treated unfairly?
Stop thinking how the world wants you to think and start thinking how God wants you too. There is no unfair treatment from God, He treat everyone the same. You sin you go to Hell. You get saved you spend eternity with Him in Heaven/Paradise.
Now you can complain and be bitter because He is unwilling to bend towards how you want to live or you can be thankful that He is unchanging. By remaining the same throughout time, it gives you a baseline on how to live.
So while the world and the people in it may treat you unfairly from time to time, it is up to you how you handle the situation. You can become bitter or not. My mom chose to be bitter based on how my dad treated her for years, but all it did was just make her depressed, distrust others, rob her of life energy, and affect her health.
Just remember that we are instructed not to be bitter:
Hebrews 12:15 New International Version (NIV)
15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
Ephesians 4:31-32 New International Version (NIV)
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
It is tough to not be bitter at times, but God said this not to protect others, but to protect and help us lead the life that He knows we can live.
You know what I am going to say next, if you are struggling then take it to the Lord and let Him help. In other words, go pray.
