What is the definition of trust?
By Merriam-Webster online dictionary it means: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something. It also means to place confidence in. Cambridge online dictionary defines trust as to have confidence in something or to believe in someone. It also means to hope and expect that something is true as well as to believe that someone is good and honest and will not harm you, or that something is safe and reliable.
Love always has an assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something and to believe that someone is good and honest and will not harm you, or that something is safe and reliable.
This does not mean that love is naive, is completely unaware of what is going on, is easily duped, is gullible, etc. You are not suspicious, you give them the benefit of the doubt, you do not believe everything you hear, you believe the best in that person, and you look past their past.
Those who love always believe in the other person and that they are good. You do not question whether they deserve to be loved or not, you just love them.
This can be one of the most challenging aspects of love. We as humans do things that harm others. We lie, abuse, are dishonest, hurt, etc. Trust is one of those things that can be easily broken and very hard to get back.
Do you trust those you claim to love? I know I do not at times. Do you struggle in this area? I know I do at times. This is the very thing God wants us to bring to Him. So I urge you to do so.
