Flesh and blood

According to the below verse, our struggles are not against other humans.

Ephesians 6:12 New International Version (NIV)

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

I cannot argue with God’s word. This is what He has said and this is what He means.

Does this mean we do not hold people accountable for their actions? No. Does this mean we have to have sympathy for their actions? No.

What it does mean is that we still love them and we have to realize that something is influencing their decisions.

Don’t believe me, just look at people and how they worship and want to be like their heroes who are typically celebrities(actors, singers, others that are in the spot light)/rich/famous/politicians/etc.

Satan is constantly working to turn people from God, but we are told to resist the Devil and he will flee.

James 4:7 New International Version (NIV)

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

So should we have sympathy towards those that choose to disobey God? I do not believe that is required. Forgiveness and mercy are, but not sympathy. Also, I do not recall anywhere in the Bible where it says we have to be sympathetic towards people who willing and knowingly choose a path that is in direct opposition to God.

This topic can be very confusing and make it seem like it contradicts love, but we are the ones who have redefined what words mean and will routinely confuse the meanings.

Do you struggle with this area of your life? I know I do. That is why I pray to God for help and I urge you to do so.
