So many of us say that we are Christian, but do we really understand what that means? The answer is a resounding NO.
Do not get me wrong, that does not mean that none of us understand, but rather the vast majority do not. This is one of the reasons why Christ said wide is the path.
Matthew 7:13-14 New International Version (NIV)
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Christ is saying that we really do not know what it takes to live the life that we are supposed to live. You will hear this in the form of well that was only a small sin compared to that person, or that was a lie to spare someone’s feelings, or if God really loves me, then He will accept me as I am. What we are saying is that I I know what I am doing is wrong, but I am better than God and therefore I am not required to follow the life that God has said I should live.
This is no so apparent as when Christ said He never knew you.
Matthew 7:21-23 English Standard Version (ESV)
I Never Knew You
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
Seems odd that Christ would say this, but I believe He was really asking them a question, but they did not understand. Were you doing these things for me or yourself? Was it to help others or help yourself? I believe these people were doing everything to bring glory to themselves and not God.
So the question you need to ask yourself is are you really a Christian or a wanna be. Being a Christian is not easy and I can tell you that I fail at least 95% or more of the time. I know what I should be doing, but I end up always doing what I should not.
If you want this resolved, then you know what to do. Just to be safe, go pray to God and ask Him for help.
