Entitlement

This past Sunday, 6Nov16, I was driven to the airport by a young man who had two jobs, a taxi driver and an insurance salesman. This got me thinking about entitlement.

This post is not about possessions, but about why do people think it is ok to take money and expect to live as one who works very hard.  If you are thinking this is about material things, it is not.

Why do people think that when you get money from the government which is actually taking money from everyone that pays taxes, that you should live as those who are actually paying the taxes?  These people expect and think they are entitled to eat the best foods, wear the best clothes, live in the best places, and have the best transportation.  They also think that they are entitle to take vacation like those who work or have the material things like a person who works.  Wake up, you are not entitled to any of those things.

Here is what you are entitled to, work like the rest of us.  That is it.  God made it very clear that man was to work to live.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 New International Version (NIV)

10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

There is always something you can do, so the excuse that you cannot find a job is unacceptable.

I pray that God will open your eyes to realize that you who are taking money from the government are actually stealing from all of us who are.  If you are thinking, I am not stealing, well I beg to differ.  Can you work?  If you answer yes, but refuse, then you are stealing.  This is why I pray that God will open your eyes.  If you do your part, God will do His.

Philippians 4:19New International Version (NIV)

19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

This does not mean that God will make you rich or provide you with a lot of material things.  It does mean that God will provide what you need to live.

Matthew 6:25-34 New International Version (NIV)

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Lord please help all of us to realize that we are worshiping the wrong things.  What I mean by that is that we are too focused on the material things versus spiritual well being.
