Brain Dead

I do not know about you, but I feel like so many people are already brain dead. I am sure I have mentioned this or something like it in the past, but it seems to be getting worse.

Part of the problem is the cellphone. People are on these things all the time. They are texting, talking, reading, etc. They are on them when they walk, interact with others, while driving, etc. Then when something happens, they want to blame you.

I have almost hit several people who are on their phones and who just step out in front of me while I am driving down the road. I have almost been hit by drivers while I am driving because they are on their phones and are either weaving across the lanes or who need to exit and decide that now at the last second they want to cut across 4 lanes of traffic. Why? Because they were on their phones.

Now phones are not the only cause of this issue, the other is people just are not paying attention to what they are doing. I was almost hit by a driver who pulled out of a CVS into the right lane. I was in the left lane and she decided she was coming over into my lane while I was right beside her. I had to hit the brakes hard and swerve to the left into the turn lane to avoid hitting her. Yet she gave me the nastiest look on the face of the planet like I was at fault when it was clearly her fault.

This is not the only time. At work people are just not paying attention to what they are doing. An engineer decided not to execute a protocol that he wrote the way the protocol was to be executed. That would have been okay if he had written down how he actually did execute the protocol, but no he does not do that either. Then he has no idea why this is an issue and why he has to write up a deviation.

All I want to know is what in the world is going on? Are these people actually zombies? The answer is of course not. My wife thinks people are just so wrapped up in their lives and what is going on within their own head that they are not paying attention.

This may be true, but people had better wake up and start paying attention, or they may find themselves in the morgue.

God warned us about paying attention:

Proverbs 16:20-30 English Standard Version (ESV)

20 Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good,
    and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.
21 The wise of heart is called discerning,
    and sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.
22 Good sense is a fountain of life to him who has it,
    but the instruction of fools is folly.
23 The heart of the wise makes his speech judicious
    and adds persuasiveness to his lips.
24 Gracious words are like a honeycomb,
    sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
25 There is a way that seems right to a man,
    but its end is the way to death.
26 A worker’s appetite works for him;
    his mouth urges him on.
27 A worthless man plots evil,
    and his speech is like a scorching fire.
28 A dishonest man spreads strife,
    and a whisperer separates close friends.
29 A man of violence entices his neighbor
    and leads him in a way that is not good.
30 Whoever winks his eyes plans dishonest things;
    he who purses his lips brings evil to pass.

Hebrews 2 New International Version (NIV)

Warning to Pay Attention

2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

Are you brain dead? Are you paying attention to what is going on? If not, you should. It might just safe your life on this world and in the afterlife.
