Last Sunday the pastor of our church preached about contentment. One of the verses about being content that resonated with me was:
Hebrews 13:5 New International Version (NIV)
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”
I know that at times I am searching for bigger, better, faster, more powerful, etc. Hey, I am Tim the Toolman Taylor. I am very happy with what I have at the time I bought it, but I am not necessarily content with it and because of this, I have multiples of many things.
This drives my wife nuts. How many blenders does one person need? It is a joke in our family since I bought a Vitamix, Blendtec, three different kinds of Nutribullets, four immersion blenders, and two Ninjas. Why?
I was always searching for that next best one which is ridiculous. I should have been happy with two, one blender and one immersion blender.
This is why that particular Bible verse had a huge impact on me. It made me realize what I was doing. Now the question is can I control it? Probably not, but that is why I will seek help from the Lord.
