Discrimination

We act like discrimination is a bad thing. In some instances, when we are discriminating against people, that could be good or bad depending on the situation. In other instances, discrimination can actually keep us alive.

So lets define discrimination:

  • The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.
  • Recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another.
  • Treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit
  • The power of making fine distinctions; discriminating judgment
  • Something that serves to differentiate.

These definitions were taken from Dictionary.com and Lexico.com

So does God discriminate. The answer is no, He loves us all equally.

Galatians 3:28 English Standard Version (ESV)

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Romans 2:11 English Standard Version (ESV)

11 For God shows no partiality.

Mark 12:31 English Standard Version (ESV)

31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

1 Samuel 16:7 English Standard Version (ESV)

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

Also, do not think for a second that God does not judge others. Christ who is part of holy trinity routinely judged Pharisees and Sadducees. He did judged based on their acts which hypocrisy, greed, and jealousy.

This is exactly how we should discriminate, not against people because of which group they belong, but based on their actions. However, the world has decided that any kind of discrimination even those towards a persons actions is deplorable.

In other words, we are on the verge of calling evil good and good evil. This will be trouble.

Isaiah 5:20 English Standard Version (ESV)

20 Woe to those who call evil good
    and good evil,
who put darkness for light
    and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
    and sweet for bitter!

I will fully admit that I discriminate against actions, not the group the person belongs too. Although, I am sure if you ask my wife she might say I include some groups. It is not that I am including groups when I discriminate, but rather I am looking at trends and it seems that this group or that is exhibiting the behavior/action I am discriminating against and will make remarks.

Do you discriminate? If so, why? Which path are you taking against a group or against the action that an individual may be doing? If you are unsure, then go to God for help and ask Him to show you and to potentially help you change.
