According to Christ we are to serve others. That is we are to humble ourselves and serve as Christ served.
Luke 16:13 English Standard Version (ESV)
13 No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
Luke 22:26 English Standard Version (ESV)
26 But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.
John 12:26 English Standard Version (ESV)
26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
Romans 7:6 English Standard Version (ESV)
6 But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.
Galatians 5:13 English Standard Version (ESV)
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Philippians 2:5-11 English Standard Version (ESV)
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
No where does it say wait to be served, but rather we are to serve others.
Think about it, if for one second we put others needs ahead of our own what could this world be like.
This is just a guess but I imagine a world where there is:
- Harmony
- Peace
- Respect
- Reverence for God
- No discrimination
- Love
- Sharing
- Caring
- Compassion
- Humility
and the positive list goes on and on. Instead what do we have because of pride:
- Hate
- Anger
- Discrimination
- Lack of compassion/Hardened hearts
- Selfishness
- Constantly thinking of myself
- Disrespect
- Chaos
- Anarchy
and the negative list foes on and on.
Which would you rather have?
Are you willing to serve others or is that beneath you and you want to be served.
I never really gave it much thought, but if it was not too good for Christ to sever others, then it is not too good for me. I need to put my pride away and humble myself enough to serve.
This is not an easy task because the world wants us to be selfish and that means being prideful.
The question is are you willing to put aside your pride and sever others no matter what? This is what Jesus did and this is what He is asking us to do.
If your answer is no, remember there is no greater service than serving others. It does not matter how we are treated, we just need to decide if we are going to follow Christ and server others or not.
